Rent reductions – reprieve for housing co-ops!
The Government has recently announced that Registered Provider housing co-ops and fully mutuals will continue to be exempt from the requirement to reduce their rent for the whole of the 4 year programme of rent reductions. The Department of Communities & Local Government have confirmed that co-ops may set their rents within a range between -1% and CPI plus 1% (CPI = Consumer Price Index). We advise that you set your rents within this range in accordance with the needs of your long term finance plan, and following consultation with their members.
As well as this, the Government has announced that the members of housing co-ops and fully mutuals will be exempt from having their rents capped at Local Housing Allowance rates until 2019/20.
