Co-op Training Day - Saturday 2 July 2016
We were pleased to welcome members of our client co-operatives to the training day this year. Held on Saturday July 2016 as our celebration for the International Day of Co-operatives whose theme was 'the power to act for a sustainable future' in support of theSustainable Development Goals .
We ran 3 workshops during the day. Tara Cornish from Glazer Delmar Solicitors gave a whistle stop tour around some of the legal changes that have taken place over the last year or so, bringing committee members up to date with issues they need to be aware of. Download Tara's presentation here.
The second workshop was Conflict to collaboration by Kate Whittle from Cooperantics. Kate covered subjects such as dissolving problems and win-win solutions. Recommended reading from the workshop was the excellent publication 'Getting to Yes: Negotiating an agreement without giving in', available here.
The final workshop on 'Governance – what is all the fuss about' was run by Dennis Frederick and Nurain Abudu who are both Client Relationship Officers here at CDS. This looked at our responsibilities as a landlord and co-op officer including obeying the law, good faith, duty to take care and upholding the cooperative status of your organisation. Paula Farrow, Chair of Minster Co-op, said 'all the presentations were brilliant, particularly the workshop on the legal changes. Keeping up with it all is much easier when you have a legal mind to discuss it with'.
Watch out for our training day next year!
