CDS Chair Honoured with Lifetime Achievement in Housing Awards
23 June 2015
After more than 40 years of dedication to co-operative housing and tenant empowerment, Maureen Stables was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Inside Housing/CIH Housing Heroes Awards in Manchester last night.
Sponsored by the Manchester Housing Providers Partnership, the award recognises Maureen as one of the ‘unsung heroes’ of the housing world who have shown commitment, passion and flair in a vibrant housing sector.
Shortlisted from more than 200 entries, the awards acknowledged the significant contribution Maureen has made to the UK co-operative housing sector. For Maureen and for CDS, the power of people working together is at the heart of delivering good quality homes in sustainable communities where people can afford to live and enjoy their lives.
The judges were impressed by the way that Maureen had shown a personal and enduring commitment not just to espousing the co-op model but to actively helping others - through her stewardship of CDS - to own or manage their own homes successfully in collaboration with others.
On presentation of the award, they said "Through being a long-term leader of CDS Maureen Stables has not only built up a successful organisation that spread the cooperative housing vision across the UK, residents have been empowered in a new way through many homes now being cooperatively managed, building thriving communities through the work that Maureen has tenaciously driven not only through CDS but enabling and inspiring the wider housing cooperative movement."
Everyone at CDS is especially delighted that Maureen has been recognised by the whole housing sector as we celebrate our 40th year.
