Darent Housing Cooperative’s committee joined forces to tackle outstanding work needed to be done towards signing off the Codes of Conduct and The Accreditation. Although several local meetings had been dedicated to this end, there was still a lot of work to do, so a conference room was booked at The Hilton in Maidstone, where everyone on the 14 strong committee gave up a weekend and focused on completing a lot of the work.

Sign up to support the Co-operative Housing Tenure Bill

The Co-operative Housing Tenure Bill is being introduced by Jonathan Reynolds MP (Labour/Co-op Hyde and Stalybridge) on 11th October. The Bill calls for legislation for co-operative tenure to be recognised as a distinct estate in English property law and will make it easier for housing co-ops to start and to organise themselves. Please support the Bill by signing the petition.

This year Co-operatives Fortnight, the co-operative sector’s annual national campaign, will take place from the 25 June to 9 July 2011. The theme is ‘Yours to Share which calls for co-operative action to narrow the gap between rich and the poor in the UK. The Fortnight is supported by co-operatives across the UK, including CDS Co-operatives, and was kicked off with the launch of the ‘Yours to Share’ petition outside the Bank of England on 4 April.

As we get older our homes are often no longer suitable i.e. too many stairs, expensive to heat etc. Loneliness and isolation can also be big problems. Dealing with repairs and maintenance can become a heavy burden. Mutual Retirement Housing would remove these worries and provide residents with a better quality of life.
