Safety at CDS Co-operatives

Your safety is our highest priority. We work hard to keep homes safe and comfortable, following all legal and regulatory requirements. It means that we must obey the law and meet the standards set by official bodies like the Regulator of Social Housing

This section explains our approach to safety, outlines what residents can expect and sets out how to report any concerns or issues.

Our Safety Commitments

Gas Safety

Every CDS home with gas appliances receives an annual gas safety check. Appointments are arranged in advance and all checks are carried out by certified engineers.

Electrical Safety

We inspect electrics in all homes every five years, meeting the highest industry standards. Residents will be notified in advance of inspections and advised of any actions or follow-ups.

Fire Safety

Fire risk assessments are carried out for communal areas and blocks. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are checked regularly and maintained to ensure full protection for residents.

Water Safety

Where applicable, we monitor water supplies to manage the risk of Legionella, keeping systems clean and safe for everyone.

Damp, Mould & Condensation

Residents can report issues using our online service or by phone, and repairs are prioritised for urgent health risks.

Lift Safety

All lifts within our buildings receive the servicing and statutory testing they require to ensure they remain safe, reliable and available for residents who depend on them.

Your Responsibilities

Provide access to your home for all safety inspections as required (gas, electrical, fire safety checks).

Immediately report safety hazards or urgent issues affecting your property or communal areas.
