We are installing new tumble dryers across the blocks at Phoenix Place. Following consistent feedback about the unreliability of the current dryers from residents, we have taken action and are delighted to be installing brand new machines that are larger, more effective and more efficient.
We spoke to Housing Officer, Vivien Okonkwo about the decision to upgrade the dryers:
We know that the unreliability of the dryers was disrupting residents’ daily lives and making things more difficult when they simply didn’t need to be.
We are confident that the dryers will improve the estate, and your experience as a tenant, now, but we made the decision to upgrade them with an eye to the future. The machines remain free to use and CDS are delighted to pay for these new machines and the first year of maintenance, but from 2022/23, if you live in a block, the maintenance contract for the dryers will be paid for with your service charges. We want to be able to offer our residents the very best value for money and this investment now in high spec, reliable dryers, will protect that in the long run. We also know, that sustainability and protecting the environment are things that our residents care about and so have prioritised these two things when choosing the new dryers. The new machines will be up to 80% more efficient which means that both the cost of running the dryers, and the estates carbon footprint, will decrease. We hope you enjoy using them and would love to hear your feedback about the new dryers. You can get in touch with me or Dave Brand with any thoughts, questions or queries (contact details below).
Work to replace the dryers began on the 15th of February and is expected to take up to two weeks. This will mean that your drying room will be temporarily out of use for up to two days as our contractors remove and replace the machines. Keep an eye out for posters in your block which will let you know when this is going to happen. Thank you for your patience during this time.
