Our new financial support project
We are really pleased to be working with Janine from Community Unites Us on a 6-month financial pilot project at Phoenix Place in Dartford, which, if it goes well, will be rolled out for all our residents. Janine will be working to support residents to:
- Maximise income - by ensuring they are claiming and receiving all the benefits they should be. She can also help to challenge and appeal decisions by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) or the council, for example about housing benefit.
- Manage and prioritise debts and rent arrears – through providing information and training about financial products, applications for bank accounts, or working with the local credit union to get help with budgeting and savings accounts.
- Gain skills - using online services to have better access to apply for benefits, gain savings from online shopping and switching providers of energy and utilities.
Janine Warner-White, founder, says: “I set up Community Unites Us when I saw a real need for welfare benefit support in our community. With the government making so many cuts and changes to the welfare system, public access to specialist advice is needed more than ever. Our aim is to help residents maximise their income, to identify and help residents with rent arrears, and to assist residents with the changes to the welfare system”.
We will update you in the next newsletter how the pilot has gone and if we will be rolling it out for all residents. For more information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org at CDS or for information about Community Unites Us please visit their website at or email at email@example.com.
