- Hazel Housing Co-op returns from the ashes
Back in July 2006 six families from Hazel Housing Co-operative at Larkswood Close, near Hazel Road, Erith had a lucky escape when a lightning bolt ripped through their houses. No-one was injured in the blast but one person was treated for shock.
The lightening bolt hit the roofs of the properties creating a large hole and affected electrics causing serious fires in 3 of the properties. All the houses suffered major structural damage with ceilings and roofs collapsing. The fires caused extensive damage to the upper floors of 3 houses.
Although it took over a year, thankfully all the properties have now been rebuilt and Hazel Housing Co-op held a welcome home party on the estate, with a disco, face painting, bouncy castles, games and competitions. Maria McCarron, our housing services manager, officially welcomed the residents back on behalf of CDS Co-operatives, and everyone had a great time.
