In a mutual exchange, two tenants swap their homes and assign their respective tenancy agreements to each other (in some cases a new tenancy may be created).

 As there is a shortage of rented homes, CDS will require you to have a genuine need to move and every co-operative will need to make sure that your needs match the property available.  You will only be able to exchange your property if there are no serious breaches of tenancy or court orders against you, your property is in good condition and there are no rent arrears on your account.  Click here to request a rent statement.

Transfers  - CDS runs a transfer scheme for its own tenants and for those tenant members of the client co-ops who have opted for this service who wish to move from their current home because it is no longer suitable for their needs.  Please note:   we are unable to help everyone who applies, properties are allocated on a priority points system.

Transfer to the local authority - in some cases the local authority where you live will accept applications to their waiting list. They will rehouse a CDS or co-op tenant in exchange for the rehousing of an applicant from their waiting list. You can make direct applications for housing to local authorities anywhere in the country.

Homeswapper - if you want to move to an area where CDS or your co-operative does not have any properties we may be able to help you through the Homeswapper scheme where you are nominated to other housing associations or local authorities elsewhere in the country. We cannot guarantee that your nomination will be accepted and the organisation in the area you want to move to does not have to rehouse you.

An offer will not normally be made if a tenant has rent arrears, is under a court order or legal action is being taken because of a breach of tenancy agreement.
