how to pay your rent

We try to make paying your rent as easy as possible. You can pay your rent in the following ways.

  • Swipe cards

We issue swipe cards which will help you pay your rent at the post office with little paperwork. You can pay by cash, debit card or cheque. If you pay by cheque at the post office, please make your cheque payable to ‘Post Office Counters Ltd’.

  • Standing order through your bank.

Transferring money from an internet bank account to our bank account (number, 05030757, sort code 72 00 00). Please make sure you tell your bank your tenancy reference number when paying your rent.

  • By post

You can send cheques or postal orders made payable to ‘CDS Co-operatives’. Please write your address and your tenancy reference number on the back of any cheques, and please do not send cash in the post.

  • In person

You can visit our office and pay your rent by cheque, postal order or cash at the Help Desk.

Whichever way you choose to pay your rent (except swipe card), you will probably need to know our bank account number, which is 05030757, and the sort code number which is 72 00 00. Please make sure you keep a record of having paid your rent.

We will send you a rent statement at least once every three months. You can also phone our Help Desk on 03333 21 30 30 to find out the current status of your rent account.

Paying your rent

You must pay your rent and you must pay on time. We need the money so we can run the organisation and provide services. You will lose your home if you do not pay your rent.

If you miss a payment you will fall into arrears. If this happens, you must contact your arrears control officer as soon as possible.  Do not delay letting us know you  are having problems paying your rent. We will give you help and advice so you can pay the outstanding rent. You will need to make an arrangement to clear any arrears. Remember, arrears can start off small when you miss the occasional payment but they build up quickly.

You should tell us as soon as your circumstances change, for example, if you lose your job. We will help you as much as possible to sort out all the benefits you will be entitled to. You should understand that you can be taken to court for not paying your rent. If you continue to fail to pay your rent, we will get a court order for repayment or to repossess your home, or both.  Please ask us for a copy of our arrears policy.
