minor adaptations without delay
For residents of CDS Co-operatives
You may be experiencing mobility problems at home. We can assist you by installing a physical aid or adaptation (costing less than £500) without delay.
If you feel you would benefit from a minor adaptation to your home to assist you with any mobility problems then please speak to your Co-operative Support Officer or contact the Development and Maintenance Administrator at CDS Co-operatives Head Office.
The Administrator will then either make an appointment for the Maintenance Inspector to visit you to discuss the positioning of your aid or if we have enough information from you without the need for this we will pass the work directly to one of our specialist contractors.
The contractor will then contact you to arrange a suitable time and date to view and complete the work.
You will be kept informed of the progress of your case by the Administrator. Our aim is to have your adaptation work underway within four weeks of your referral to us.
The range of adaptations available under this scheme
If you need one or more of the adaptations below then CDS Co-operatives will undertake these minor adaptations without delay as long as they cost less than £500.
We will do this work without the need for us to consult an Occupational Therapist. This will enable you to benefit from your adaptation without delay, and hopefully live more independently at home.
If a referral to an Occupational Therapist is appropriate, we will discuss this further with you.

Frequently asked questions
Q. How much work can I have done in my home?
A. At present CDS has a budget which should enable sufficient minor adaptations for your needs. However we cannot always guarantee that funding will be available.
Q. I am on the list for major works or a Disabled Facilities Grant. Can I still have minor works done?
A. Yes, certainly. In fact, you may require minor works to assist you whilst waiting for your major works or Disabled Facilities Grant to be processed. Contact your Occupational Therapist in this instance for minor adaptations and they will contact CDS Co-operatives.
Q. I am in hospital and can’t go home without minor adaptations to my property. How can they be done?
A. The hospital occupational therapist/nurse/staff in charge should contact the Administrator who will then arrange the necessary work with a relative/yourself. (This may be carried out before your return home if we can be provided with access in your absence).
Q. What happens if I need more extensive work doing?
A. We may still be able to help either ourselves or via a Disabled Facility Grant. See Aids and Adaptations.
