aids and adaptations
For residents of CDS Co-operatives only
You may need aids or adaptations to be made to your home to enable you to continue to live in your property. CDS Co-operatives can assist you.
If you feel you would benefit from an aid or adaptation to assist you to live in your home then please speak to your Co-operative Support Officer or contact the Development and Maintenance Administrator at the CDS Co-operatives’ Head Office.
If the aid or adaptation is relatively minor and will cost under £500 CDS Co-operatives has set up a “fast track” scheme which enables us to provide these types of adaptations without the need for an Occupational Therapist. See Minor Adaptations Without Delay for more information. This scheme applies to tenants of CDS Co-operatives.
If your adaptation is more substantial (such as a level access shower, a hoist or a stair lift) there will be a need for an Occupational Therapist to advise you and us as to what is required.
When you contact us for a more substantial adaptation we will advise you to get an Occupational Therapist from the local authority to assess your needs and supply a report. We can help you by putting you in touch with the relevant Occupational Therapy team.
The Occupational Therapist will visit you to assess your needs and will then give us a report. If the work is less than £5,000 we will normally fund this ourselves (however if you are not a tenant of CDS Co-operatives but a tenant of an independent housing co-operative we will need to get your co-operative’s consent to finance the works).
If we are able to finance the works we will then draw up a specification and place the works out to competitive tender. We would aim to do this within 4 weeks of obtaining the Occupational Therapist’s report on your requirements. The works contract should then be let within the following two weeks and the contractor awarded the work will contact you to arrange to have the works done.
If we cannot finance the works then we will advise you as to how best to apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant from the relevant local authority. We may be able to undertake some minor works whilst you are awaiting the decision of the local authority on the Disabled Facilities Grant.
