- Mulberry Housing Co-operative Limited
local authority: London Borough of Lambeth
Please note: some properties come under LB Southwark.
Mulberry Housing Co-operative comprises 56 properties situated in the SE1 area of London close to Waterloo station and the Southbank area of the Thames. Properties range from 1bed flats to 4 bed houses. The estate forms a ‘square’ which encloses its own central garden with access for residents only. The co-operative has two specially adapted bungalows for wheelchair users.
The estate was built by Coin Street Community Builders (CSCB) in the late 1980’s on land which was sold to them for a nominal fee by the now defunct GLC. CSCB let the properties to local people in housing need nominated by Lambeth and Southwark Council in early 1988. After a period of training residents took control of the estate which began to function as an independent fully mutual co-operative in the early 1990’s. CDS Co-operatives has provided management services to the co-operative since 1992.
The estate is situated in an area of controlled parking only. The co-operative manages its own off street parking with automated barrier gates using a ’card only’ entry system.
The properties are well situated in the increasingly popular regenerated SE1 Southbank area in the heart of London. Waterloo International station and the underground is a five minute walk away and there are many central London bus and night bus routes nearby.
Mulberry Housing Co-operative has contractual tenancies and has a 100% nominations agreements with both the London Borough’s of Lambeth and Southwark. Therefore 50% of vacancies are offered on an alternate basis to both local authorities.
